Introduction

It remplaces the urbans circuit of Montjuïc (in Barcelona city) closed in 1975 for an accident during the F1 GP of Spain.

Catalonia needs a speedway and the local government in 1986 aproves the circuit.

Inaugurated in 1991, there are three different routes: the Grand Prix track, with 4.727 m.; the National track, with 3.067 m.; and the RAAC School track, with 1.703 m.

It has 3 variants for the tracks GP and National, the Nissan variant, La caixa F1 variant and the Chicane RACC. The Nissan variant it's not very used but La caixa F1 variant and the Chicane RACC are used in all events of cars for security reasons.

The Circuit de Catalunya was built up thanks to the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Catalan government, and the RACC impetus.
