Counter-Clockwise Turn by turn guide to the new TGPR track

This track can really be divided into five turns. For the purposes of this discussion, we will number them in counter-clockwise fashion. As of this date, the course can only be run counter-clockwise. A clockwise guide will be posted when clockwise runs are allowed. For those who have not driven the new track, the owners have painted fake gator style curbing at turn in, apex, and trackout areas. This is a very helpful reference as this course is pretty flast. For the most part, the name of the game here is LATE APEX. Patience is key.

Turn 1: This is a fast left hand sweeper with some banking. There is an apron far inside this turn that can be used, but they have been putting out cones to prevent this. Let's just say the apron is off limits. Anyway, this turn can be taken very fast. Turn-in is a tad bit earlier than one might think at first. Get down in the pocket quick and use the banking. The pavement is a little bumpy, but not bad. Do not run wide in this turn as the outside is not heavily banked and you might go off course. A good exit speed here is helpful as the 1 - 2 straight is long.

Turn 1 Entrance:

Turn 2: This is a left hand carousel with slight banking and an increasing radius. Drive deep and turn in for a fairly late apex to get good exit speed. After trackout, make your way to the left side of the track. There is a crown in the middle of the road and the entrance to turn 3 is off camber as a result.

Turn 2 Exit:

  • Get left after the kink to set up turn 3

Turn 3: This is a tight, decreasing radius, right hand pain in the butt. Patience is the name of the game here. The more patient you are, the faster you will be. Drive around the outside of the turn until you are about 3/4 of the way around. You will see some red & white paint (fake gators) on the left. Turn in with a bit of a lift to help the car rotate. Get back on the gas, hit your very late apex, and drive to track out.

Turn 3 Entrance:

Turn 3 Turn-In:

Turn 4: This is probably the most important corner on the track. Taken properly, this corner can increase the total length of the back straight significantly. There is really quite a bit of time to be had here. It is a double apex partial carousel. Trail brake on entrance to stick the nose. Drive around the outside of the track until you have turned about thirty degrees. Turn in and aim for the middle of the short straight. Looking at the track photo on the previous page, your aiming point is directly opposite the skidpad entrance. The track widens a bit here, so stay heavy on the gas. Hold the turn to apex again at the kink. Drive to trackout. It's important here after you turn in to use as little steering input as possible. The straighter your car goes while you accelerate, the faster you will go down the back straight.

Turn 4 Entrance:

Turn 4 Apex 1:

Turn 4 Apex 2:

Turn 5: This turn encompasses all of the esses. Do not miss your braking point! There are a lot of offs in this corner. You will notice that there is a grayish band of asphalt across the track here where they have ground off a bump. This is a great reference for braking. I brake about 15 feet after this band. Turn in for a geometric apex. A lot of people turn in too late here and exit speed suffers. It's also very important to drive to the trackout here. It will help you build speed for the straight. Basically, turn in, drive straight through the esses, then turn slightly again toward trackout on the straight.
