Turn 1

Jefferson Circuit driving notes (counter-clockwise)

Most every turn here is a late apex and off camber. There are 2 decreasing radius turns, 4 and 7. There isn't a lot of runoff anywhere.

From pit-out check your mirrors and move left as soon as it is safe. Set up on the left edge of the track proper. DO NOT use the extra pavement. It is rough and can literally snatch the wheel out of your hands, especially under braking. Braking zone starts at the end of the cross-over road. Turn in right for turn 1 when the left front tire gets to the dip in the pavement. Apex is near the end of the rumble strip. It's also blind because of the hill and late. I can't use too much power here because the track is bumpy and I get wheelspin.

As soon as the car settles turn in left for turn 2. The apex is almost at the end of the concrete curb.

As soon as the car settles turn in right for turn 3. The apex is almost at the end of the concrete curb. Straighten out and get on the gas.

Brake hard as you near the edge of the track. There is a dead tree that I aim toward. Turn in left and aim for the apex of turn 4 which is almost at the end of the concrete curb. Try to hit the apex with the left front tire. Get on the power and let the car drift out to the right. If you do it right the right edge of the track will come to you, go away from you and come back again. If you do this right it can be taken flat out in my car. Stay right after you finally track out.

The approach to turn 5 is downhill. Turn 5 is the fastest one on this track and the key to a fast lap. It is mostly on camber. I need to use a lot less brakes here. Turn in left when your right front wheel hits the dip in the pavement. Get on the power as soon as you make the turn in. There is a nasty dip right at the apex. It doesn't bother the car so just deal with it. Track out all the way right. You can use the extra pavement here if you want to. As best as I can remember it's the only place where it's useful. Check mirrors and point faster cars by.

Flare left as you head down the back straight til about the middle of the track to make a straight line thru the kink called turn 6. Clip the end of the concrete curb on your right and brake hard in a straight line for the apex of 6. I line up with a telephone pole on the other side of the track. Downshift to 3rd. I get on the gas again, very briefly.

Brake hard in a straight line heading for the right edge of the track near the top of the hill. Rotate the car hard left and get on the gas as soon as it comes around. Clip the late apex near the end of the left curb and track out all the way right. You can use the pit road if you want to. Shift up to 4th and cross over to the left to set up for turn 1. Watch for cars coming out of the pits. Check mirrors and point faster cars by.
